What Technologies is Data Dependent On?
Welcome to chapter 2, part 2!
Part 2
What you will learn
We’ve always had data—just not in the form of 0s and 1s. We've mentioned many examples—from sound waves to parish registers. Digital data has also existed for many decades.
Recently though, everything and everyone has been connected in the same network. This is the driving force of the digital transformation. Networks are a prerequisite for the type of data usage and data sharing we see today. Therefore, in this section, we will become more familiar with networks, the Internet, and protocols.
In this section, you will learn about the history of the Internet and a bit about how it works—and what's hiding behind acronyms like TCP/IP and HTML.
You’ll also get some insight into cloud computing.
Although we’ve had the Internet for quite some time (it actually dates back to the 60s), it's only in recent years that cloud computing has become such an important piece in the digital puzzle. It is also a central part of the data infrastructure, and that is why we will take a look at what the cloud is and how it works as well.
